Brent Chesney led the efforts at the Island TIRZ board to secure the funding for the Island Skatepark.

$3.6 million grant for a living shoreline along Packery Channel to mitigate erosion and include a new public fishing pier.
$7.5 million Restore Act grant adding RV and tent sites with restrooms, laundry, and walking trails at Padre Balli and IB Magee.
Brent Chesney stepped up and saved Parker Pool when the City of Corpus Christi was going to close it. Nueces County took it over and Brent Chesney upgraded the pool with a million dollars to maintain and provide an important community asset. There are additional upgrades starting in 2026.
